Method: live Google results (DataForSEO, mobile, 2026-10-06) for custom shed builder [city] in each market — top 2 real sites per city from organic (directories/forums/marketplaces excluded and noted). Documented fallbacks from the same SERPs: Summerwood profiled alongside Tuff Shed's location page (Tuff Shed repeats at #3 — same brand, deduped), and Texas Affordable Sheds profiled from Houston's map pack because organic held only one non-directory contractor. Amish Shed Pros is tagged lead-gen — profiled as proof of the model. Each site profiled at source level: sitemap inventories, raw HTML for schema, tel: links, widgets, forms, tracking, plus offers, RTO/financing terms, warranties and verbatim title/meta/H1 tags. Full detail lives in the four city pages.

The Five Findings That Matter

1. Publish the price and the monthly payment — and you rank

Eagle Ridge Barn Builders holds Dallas #1 with a priced project page: "8x10 Value Shed · Dallas, TX — Price $3,516 · Rent-to-Own $140/mo" plus paint codes and "View in 3D." Summerwood turns every customer build into a priced page (1,364 of them, Reg/Sale + options + freight + monthly payment) and ranks from Toronto. Texas Affordable Sheds holds Houston's map-pack #1 (4.8/149) on a 7-page site with zero SEO and a full public grid (8×8 gable $1,700 → 16×24 $4,850). Tuff Shed and Smith publish no prices and rely on brand or templates instead.

2. The catalog IS the SEO — pages, not blog posts, win this niche

Tuff Shed: 215 city-location pages (31 in CA) with local phones, embedded reviews and climate copy — taking 3 of LA's top 9 slots on broken <title> tags ("Tuff Shed Logo"). Eagle Ridge: 215 project pages + 55 inventory listings + 67 blog posts. Summerwood: 1,364 project pages. Smith: ~130 city×service pages. Amish Shed Pros: 600+ programmatic pages. Right Fence: 96 blog posts + 8 city pages — and ranks Houston with one thin shed blog post. The winners publish catalogs; the losers publish brochures.

3. Financing and rent-to-own are the offer spine — and nobody explains the terms

Every serious operator runs money options: Tuff Shed (Service Finance — 9.99% APR / 120 months, up to $100K — plus RTO National), Urban Shed Concepts (Wells Fargo Outdoor Solutions card + no-credit-check RTO), Eagle Ridge (no-credit-check RTO, 90-days-same-as-cash, 24–60 month calculator), Summerwood (Financeit + Acorn, "APRs as low as 4.99%"), Right Fence (Acorn "0% for 18 months"), Texas Affordable Sheds (express-fin.com link). Yet almost none publish what the terms actually cost. An honest RTO explainer ("$140/mo × 60 = $8,400 vs $3,516 cash") is uncontested trust content.

4. The lead-gen network from the outdoor-kitchen study is here too

Amish Shed Pros runs the identical machine as Houston's grill-installation sites: the same custom "Dynamo" platform, 600+ city×service pages across unrelated verticals, zip-first multi-step quote forms with TCPA consent, Ringba dynamic 833 numbers (4 rotating per page), Google Ads AW-837666311, cross-sell resale into 22 service categories, "Get an AI Website" upsells to contractors, stock photos, and a disclaimer admitting "actors or models" and no guarantees. One operator, many verticals — the rank-and-rent model is provably live in sheds as well as outdoor kitchens.

5. The local custom-builder lane is wide open in every market

Three of four SERPs had no map pack and no dominant local builder site. LA's top 10 contains no real LA custom builder at all (national location pages + a Toronto kit maker + Yelp/Reddit). Eagle Ridge ranks Dallas #1 with no Dallas city page (only Austin / Fort Worth / Waco). Right Fence ranks Houston with one blog post about a church's golf-cart shed. Phoenix is marketplaces, Facebook groups and one lead-gen site. A real local builder with city pages, published prices, permit/HOA help and reviews would be the first complete site in most of these SERPs.

SERP Landscape — What Actually Ranks

Live Google results captured 2026-10-06 (DataForSEO, mobile) for custom shed builder [city]. Only Houston returned a map pack; everywhere else the page is national location templates, marketplaces (ShedHUB), social and forums — and every PAA box is a cost or permit question.

The structural read: the PAA boxes everywhere ask "How much does it cost to have a custom shed built?", "Do I need a permit?", "Is it cheaper to buy or build?" — and almost nobody answers with numbers. National brands fill the void with location-page fleets; marketplaces fill it with inventory; Facebook groups absorb the unmet demand ("who can build me a shed in Dallas?"). Houston's pack review bands are modest (67–149) — an achievable review-velocity target for a new local builder.

The Ultimate Shed & Custom Outbuilding Site — Best of All 8

The target for the shed drop template: Eagle Ridge's priced project catalog, Summerwood's transparency engine, Tuff Shed's location template (fixed), Urban Shed Concepts' dual-funnel hero and offer stack, Texas Affordable Sheds' public price grid — with the field's trust vacuums and templated junk excluded.

1. Site Architecture steal: Eagle Ridge catalog + Tuff Shed locations (fixed) + TSC-style data model

2. Homepage Anatomy — exact order steal: USC's dual funnel + TAS's grid + Eagle's price tags

  1. Announcement bar: monthly special with real terms ("FREE RAMP ON ALL SHEDS" pattern) + phone with tap-to-call
  2. Sticky header: nav, phone, "Design Your Shed in 3D" + "Shop Pre-Built Inventory" — the two buyer journeys on one site (Urban Shed Concepts)
  3. Hero: exact-match H1 + price anchors ("Sheds from $1,700 installed · Rent-to-own from $140/mo") + trust chips (7-year warranty, licensed & insured, permit help) + zip-first quote field
  4. Priced project gallery — every tile shows size, style, price and monthly payment (Eagle Ridge)
  5. Sizes & prices table preview (link to the full grid)
  6. 3D designer / configurator band with instant pricing + "Delivered in 7 days" semi-custom middle tier (7 sizes, color/door/window picks, free workbench + solar vent — USC's offer verbatim)
  7. Use-case cards: storage, workshop, home office/studio, gym, she-shed, cabin/ADU → each a landing page (Summerwood's landers)
  8. Financing & RTO explainer card with named lenders and the honest math
  9. Warranty page teaser with the terms table (7-year top-to-bottom + 7-year maintenance guarantee — USC; lifetime leak & decay with published exclusions — Eagle Ridge)
  10. Live Google reviews widget + named customer/city testimonials (Eagle's 4.9/372 carousel)
  11. Process band (7 steps: design → quote → permits → site prep → build → delivery → walkthrough) + founder/crew story
  12. Permit/HOA help block + FAQ with hard numbers → FAQPage schema
  13. Service areas + city mesh + final CTA + true hours

3. The Offer Stack steal: USC's full stack + TAS's grid + Eagle's RTO math

4. The Trust Stack steal: Eagle's transparency + Tuff's store pages + RF's proof repetition

5. Conversion Mechanics steal: ASP's form + USC's dual funnel + TAS's clarity

6. SEO & Schema — the field's worst layer our edge

7. The Review Engine — the one thing a template can't ship

This is the recurring tier's reason to exist. Houston's whole map pack runs on review velocity: Texas Affordable Sheds 4.8/149 · Houston Sheds 5.0/65 · Texas Sheds & Cabins 4.4/67 — bands a new builder can actually pass. Eagle Ridge converts Dallas on a 4.9/372 carousel; Tuff Shed embeds local store ratings (535/339 counts) on every location page. The template sets the review wall and the GBP parity; a post-delivery SMS → Google review flow fills it. Same recurring product as every prior niche study.

8. Do NOT — the anti-patterns found in the field

Read the columns: the Price grid column separates winners from losers — every site with published prices ranks somewhere. Financing exists everywhere but the terms are explained almost nowhere. Chat/booking is nearly empty (one tawk.to, one HubSpot). And Schema is the free win: nobody ships complete Product + FAQPage + LocalBusiness + AggregateRating. The winning template = priced catalog + explained RTO + complete schema + a real review engine.

Next Steps

  1. Feed the spec into the shed drop template — priced project catalog pages ("$3,516 · RTO $140/mo"), the sizes-and-prices grid, the dual 3D-design / pre-built-inventory hero, per-city permit/HOA logistics tables, and the RTO explainer with honest math are the upgrade list.
  2. Watch the lead-gen network — the same Dynamo/Ringba/AW-837666311 operator from the outdoor-kitchen study runs Amish Shed Pros here, spanning 22+ verticals and selling "AI websites" to the contractors it competes with. Track it across niches — it is the canary for programmatic lead-gen.
  3. Price the recurring tier — review velocity is the map-pack battleground (Houston's bands: 67–149 reviews), and maintenance/annual-care plans fit the warranty story (USC's 7-year maintenance guarantee is the hook). Post-delivery SMS → Google review flow is the recurring product.
  4. Keep the SERP snapshots — 3 of 4 captures had no map pack and no dominant local builder; re-pull before comparing across time. Related searches push "shed cost / for sale / reviews" — cost pages should be first-class in the template.
